Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off today and Africans and football fans around the world are gearing up for an exciting tournament for the next few weeks.
Every two years the national teams from the African continent battle it out for the number one spot! And this year, Gabon are hosting the tournament that will have us all at the edge of our seats!
The 16 nations who qualified this year are Gabon, Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Senegal, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Zimbabwe, Mali, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, DR Congo and Togo.

Here are a few fun facts about the tournament:
Ivory Coast was the last country to win the cup in 2015.
Egypt won the first cup in 1957 and have won the competition seven times (the most successful country)
Ghana and Cameroon have won the tournament four times each
Samuel Etoo is the all-time top scorer with 18 goals
Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt were the only three countries to play in the first Africa Cup of Nations.
Rigobert Song has appeared in 8 tournaments in 14 years.
